Hello, is it me you’re looking for?
So this was what Lionel Richie was warbling about in Hello.
Dermalogica’s Ultracalming Cleanser is the stuff of complexion-happy dreams. It’s calming, mildly-scented (so as not to irritate my sensitive nose), incredibly moisturising, and luscious to the touch; like washing your face with thickened cream – ala Charlize Theron in Snow White and the Huntsman.
Having received a bottle of this stuff for one of the special occasions of my life – I honestly forget which – my bottle of Dermalogica’s Ultracalming Cleanser had always been left at the back burner of my vanity, my media-exposed self invariably reaching for the cleansers boasting shinier packaging and bigger buzzwords.
However, with the dawn of 2019 and personal resolutions to eliminate redundancies such as over-hyped cleansers and much-too-frequent trips to Sephora, I’d successfully cleaned out my beauty shelf; rediscovering this beauty, much to my jubilation.
Background: I’d been an avid user of Kiehl’s Men’s Oil Eliminator Deep Cleansing Exfoliating Face Wash, simply because my beau was a fan and it was easier to double-up, rather than shopping separately for his-and-hers cleansers. No discredit to Kiehl’s – having been religiously using it for a good 2 and a half years – but I think I’ve found my new favourite.
Dermalogica’s Ultracalming Cleanser may take a little adjusting to, especially for those already accustomed to using foaming cleansers. As satisfying as it may be to have a tiny dollop generate such a hefty volume of foamy suds, there is evidence that foamy cleansers can aggravate sensitive skin. In which case, Dermalogica’s Ultracalming Cleanser might just be the stuff you’re looking for.
Personally, it has reduced redness and inflamed skin – especially after those trips back from the facial salon – and even helped rehydrate patches of dull and uneven dry skin on the sides of my face.
The only drawback is that it’s on the pricier side, with S$129 giving you 500ml of product. I’ve been using full pump of Dermalogica’s Ultracalming Cleanser for the past month, every day and night, and it’s about 1/4 on it’s way down. I estimate around three, maybe four months of religious usage, max.
